There are many flavors or nuances involved in wine tasting. The aroma, taste and aftertaste may be apples, cherries, citrus or any other aromas. What flavors do you enjoy discovering in your wines? I enjoy a fruity Riesling that is semi-sweet.

Cheers,

This month we had the opportunity to visit more wineries in Ontario. What a delightful place to visit! The wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake are idyllic with vineyard after vineyard as one drives along. Have you been there yet? Feel free to comment about your visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake. What have we missed that we should have seen?

Cheers!

Mountain Spirit Winery located in Salida, Colorado produces Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and more including blends. One of these blends is the Blackberry/Cabernet Franc, a blend of 50% blackberry wine and 50% Cabernet Franc. We tried it with some very spicy pizza the other night. What a great pairing! The wine was smooth and nicely cut the too spicy pizza. The aroma was fruity and the two wines blended together seemed to be meant for each other.

Colorado has over 65 wineries and over 800 acres of producing grapevines. A third of these wineries are located in the Grand Valley AVA. The elevation is about a mile high, and although there are cold weather challenges they enjoy about the same number of heat days as Napa, California. The Grand Valley area has no problem ripening grapes. They are producing wines made from vinifera grapes often with alcohol in the 14 percent to 15 percent range. In the Grand Valley area the views from the vineyards are stunning. Backgrounds are painted by the Bookcliffs, the Grand Mesa or the Colorado National Monument.

If high gas prices are a factor, consider visiting areas that have many wineries in a small geographic area. Flying into Grand Junction airport was a pleasure. Wineries are just minutes away.

Do you know an area where there are several wineries within a short distance of each other?

What do you do with leftover wine from dinner?

Considering freezing it in ice cube trays. The next time your are cooking an entrée consider adding frozen wine cubes to your recipe.
