ZAP was formed in 1991 when Zinfandel was less known variety. Today ZAP features events and research promoting Zinfandel. Many of California\u2019s wineries have chosen to support ZAP by becoming members.<\/p>\n<p>Events to promote the grape varietal Zinfandel include Zinfandel tastings, food and Zinfandel pairings, winemakers\u2019 dinners and cruises.<\/p>\n<p>ZAP has created the Heritage Vineyard. This vineyard is a collection of grapevine cuttings from California vineyards. The grapevines include famous and rare Zinfandel. The one-acre Heritage Vineyard is at the UC Davis Oakville Research Station in Napa Valley.<\/p>\n<p>It is interesting to read on the website the European connection to Zinfandel in the US. \u201cHistorians have traced Zinfandel\u2019s roots in the United States back to\u00a0the 1820s, when cuttings from the Imperial collection of plant species\u00a0in Vienna, Austria, were imported.\u201d On the same page it is noted that Zinfandel is thought to be one of the oldest varietals from which wine was first made.<\/p>\n<p>The Association for Zinfandel Advocates &amp; Producers has developed a comprehensive and informative website.
