Title: Merlot Cherries


2 c Chinook Merlot
1 c sugar
1 cinnamon stick
Peel of 1 medium lemon
Juice of 1/2 medium lemon
2 T brandy or cognac
2 lbs red cherries, pitted


1. Combine all ingredients except the cherries in a small saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes. Cool.

2. Macerate cherries for 1/2 hour to 2 hours in the cooled syrup, turning several times.

Serve with a dab of whipped cream or creme fraiche. Also delicious over vanilla ice cream!
