Reston Limousine Wine Tour

If you are apprehensive about driving to wineries or perhaps would like a change of pace, consider a limousine trip to wine country. Many limousine companies in wine country design trips to winery tasting rooms. If one travels to wineries in New York’s Long Island or Finger Lakes wine regions, you’ll notice limousines in the parking areas. This author had an opportunity to tour wineries in Loudon County, Virginia with Reston Limousine. The driver was very professional and courteous. There are several immediate advantageous of touring wine country in a limousine.
The group filled seven of the available twelve seats in a van. Aside from the obvious advantage of not having to drive to the wineries, the biggest advantage is communication with others who enjoy traveling to wineries to taste wines. Wine conversations began immediately and continued throughout the day. The van picked up the travelers at Dulles Town Center and visited four wineries.
The first winery visited was Casanel Vineyards set on a bucolic forty-acre property that makes for a beautiful escape from the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Ten acres are under vine. Wine tasting takes place in a stone barn dating from the 1800’s. Nelson DeSouza was eager to share his “coming to America” story and relate it to the vintage names for his wines. Five wines were tasted and it was easy to see how one could easily spend a day at this winery.
The second stop on the tour was Dry Mill Vineyards and Winery. This is one of the newest wineries in Loudon County. At present the wine production is off-site, but will be produced on-site in the future. The winery, tasting room and event center are built in a stable and barn from the 1940’s. The barn and stables were once the home for horses and dogs of the Loudoun Hunt Club. It makes a wonderful spot for a winery. One can taste several white and red wines.
The third stop was Zephaniah Farm Vineyard. The tasting room is only open by appointment, another advantage of traveling with Reston Limousine. This is a small winery with less than 200 cases of wine made from the grapes grown on the property. The tasting room and winery are in a house dating from the 1830’s. One will have the opportunity to taste wines made from young grapevines. It would be interesting to visit the winery often to see how the wines change as the vines become mature.
The final stop was Willowcroft Farm Vineyards. A light drizzle that had been threatening all day finally became constant. A fog settled masking the view of the distant mountains robbing visitors of the wonderful view from Willowcroft. Travelers to Willowcroft can taste wines from a large wine portfolio.
The return trip to Dulles Town Center was ripe for evaluation. The passengers had different opinions of which was the favorite winery but did come to a consensus of their least favorite. Wine travelers who enjoy talking about wine should consider a tour with a wine tour company. It gives one the opportunity to discuss wine with others who also share the passion.
