Hudson River Valley Wine Region
Travel the roads through the Hudson River Valler and you will notice soil color changes. Perhaps the most dramatic are the areas with black soil. This tranqual area is home to the oldest winery in the United States. The Hudson River flows through the valley and wineries are along each side of the river.
To the west of the Hudson River, some wineries are members of the Shawangunk Wine Trail. On the East side of the river wineries can become members of the Dutchess Wine Trail.
Cool hardy French vinifera and hybrids grow in this area. Expect to find wines made from varieties such as Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc, Baco Noir and Cabernet Franc.
