The Authors
Terry and Kathy began second careers in the wine industry, establishing Wine Trail Traveler in January 2007. By the fall of 2016, they had visited over 1,250 wineries and vineyards in Italy, France, Croatia, Georgia (Sakartvelo), England, Wales, New Zealand, Ontario and Quebec in Canada and 20 US states. Along the way they have photographed thousands of winery scenes, compiled extensive notes, written hundreds of informative articles and authored four books. They discovered every winery has a story to tell and the Sullivans want to help get the wine stories out.
Formal wine education included the intermediate level course from Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) and online winemaking courses through Washington State University. In 2009, Terry and Kathy crafted a barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon at Virginia’s Vint Hill Craft Winery and another barrel at Tin Lizzie Wineworks in Maryland. During Spring 2010 they helped to plant an experimental vineyard at Tin Lizzie Wineworks. They made another barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon at Tin Lizzie Wineworks in the fall of 2012. They crafted a Bordeaux-styled blend in 2014. In 2013 they made a qvevri wine in the country Georgia with Rkatsiteli grapes. With the 2014 harvest, the couple returned to Tin Lizzie Wineworks to craft a Bordeaux-style blend. Terry and Kathy continue to create an ancient-style wine in a buried qvevri that they transported from the country Georgia.
