Valdo Floral Rosé Brut, Perfect for the Holidays

With Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year quickly approaching, it is time to consider the wine selections for the holidays. We were sent a sample of Valdo Floral Rosé Brut and believe this sparkling wine would match most of the holiday foods. It is also very festive including the bottle cover and label.

Valdo Floral Brut Rosé

Valdo is part of the Taub Family Selections. The society Anonima Vini Superior established Valdo in 1926. The winery is considered one of the oldest wineries in Prosecco wine region centered in Valdobiadeene. Years past and eventually the Bolla Family bought Valdo.

Valdo is near Treviso in the Prosecco DOCG. The climate in this area is mild between April and October. The hottest months are July and August. Approximately 198 acres are designated DOC and 297 acres are designated DOCG. The soil in the vineyards is comprised of morainic with alluvial terraces.

Our neighbor Donna was inspired to draw the Valdo Floral Rosé Brut bottle.

We enjoyed the bottle of Floral Rosé Brut. The sparkling wine bottle for this rosé is a splash of colorful flowers ideal to stare at and perhaps spend some time painting. Nearby neighbor, Donna used black ink and watercolors to capture the image of the cheerful Valdo wine bottle covering and label. The empty bottle also serves as a colorful flower vase.

The Floral Rosé Brut was produced in the Martinotti  method (Charmat method).

The Sparkling Wine

The sparkling wine is a blend of  Nerello Mascalese 75% and Glera 25%. The Nerello Mascalese grapes were sourced from vineyards on the lower slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily. The Glera grapes were sourced from vineyards in the Veneto region. Because the Nerello Mascalese grapes came from a region outside of the Prosecco region, the sparkling wine can not be named as a Prosecco. Instead it is a vino spumante.

The 11.5% alcohol wine offers an orangish pink color. Multiple columns of bubbles form a central and circumferential mousse on the wine’s surface. Red berry fruits are noticed on the aroma. The taste includes notes of red raspberries, strawberries, citrus and flowers notably roses. The aftertaste is also fruity. The sparkling wine retails for $18.99 on wine.com.

Cheers,
Terry
