While in the Evergreen Lounge at San Francisco International Airport, we had the opportunity to taste the Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. The straw color with a slight green hue offered tropical aromas. The taste was a tropical fruit salad. The crisp finish was palate cleansing.
Oyster Bay’s vineyards are located in the Marlborough wine region of New Zealand. The Sauvignon Blanc is planted in stony soils and the long summers and cool autumns help the grapes express their fruit characteristics.
Several appetizers were set out for passengers. The hot dogs in a pastry, matched well with the Sauvignon Blanc as did the rice. One unique observation was a New Zealand resident that half-filled her wine glass with gin and then added the Sauvignon Blanc. That’s one way to give it some extra kick.
