Destiny Bay Vineyards located on Waiheke Island near Auckland, New Zealand is focused on producing high-end wines. The vineyards feature five Bordeaux varieties including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
In a recent press release, Mike Spratt owner and winemaker at Destiny Bay, announced that Gerard Bassett “reserved special praise for the Magna Praemia blend stating that in a blind tasting he would have identified the 2006 as an elegant Left Bank Bordeaux, the 2007 as a fine First Growth Bordeaux and the 2008 as a top Super Tuscan.” This was fine praise indeed!
Gerard Basset is well known in the wine world having qualified as a Master of Wine, Master Sommelier and MBA. Basset has also won many sommelier awards. With such qualifications he is also Worldwide Vice President at the Court of Master Sommeliers.
