Waiheke Island Wineries in New Zealand

A visit to Waiheke Island is in order when planning a visit to New Zealand. The island is know for having a climate beneficial to grape growing. More than 23 vineyards and wineries are located on this delightful island which has 36 square miles of land. Two of these wineries are Destiny Bay and The Hay Paddock. Destiny Bay specializes in Bordeaux-like blends while The Hay Paddock specializes in Syrah. Both of these wineries are members of The Specialist Winegrowers of New Zealand. Currently the organizations consists of six members who grow and create fine wines.

To reach Waiheke Island one can take a 45 minute ferry ride from Auckland. Enjoy a visit to wineries and cellar doors (tasting rooms). Be sure to have a camera handy for some great photo ops.
