Historic Vineyard Society for California Vineyards

One may not quite know what will happen when posting a question on the Internet. Mike Dildine asked, “California’s great old vine Zinfandel vineyards … What are your favorites?” The result was the creation of the Historic Vineyard Society.

Mike’s question prompted others to gather together and eventually start the Historic Vineyard Society which also has a website. “Their goal is to document facts about all of California’s heritage vineyards, and to raise awareness of the unique places these vineyards represent, in California and winemaking history.” In addition the non-profit, 501 C-3, Historic Vineyard Society is concerned with preserving the historic vineyards in California.

Winery owners with vineyards that meet the requirements to be listed on the Historic Vineyard Society registry can locate the seemingly easy form online.

The Historic Vineyard Society helps wine enthusiasts to discover the wineries with historic vineyards by keeping the registry online. Historic vineyards can be found by AVA or the decade planted. When planning a visit to California wineries, consider checking the Registry of Historic Vineyards to discover some historic vineyards to include on your itinerary.

Cheers! Kathy
