Firefly Farms Creamery in Accident, Maryland

Yesterday we enjoyed a delightful trip to Firefly Farms, an artisan goat cheese creamery. The weather could not have been better. By the time we reached western Maryland, it was time to shed our coats. Firefly Farms creamery is located in Accident, Maryland just a short distance from Deep Creek Lake.

Firefly Farms is a boutique creamery creating cheese with goat milk obtained from local farmers. The creamery moved to its new location in 2011 and the public tasting area and market opened at the beginning of October. People traveling to Deep Creek Lake and Wisp Resort can easily find Firefly Farms creamery. As soon as one walks into the creamery there is an aroma of cheese. Windows provide great views of the cheese making process and views of the cheeses aging.

Besides several styles of goat cheese to taste and buy, the market offers wines produced by small, boutique wineries. Currently visitors can discover imported and domestic wines with two Maryland wineries being represented. Snack foods are also available in the market.

Whether you are looking for mild cheese or more intense cheese, you are sure to discover a cheese you enjoy at Firefly Farms. Firefly Farms cheeses can be bought at several farmers’ markets and stores including Whole Foods located in the region.

Watch for the release of the companion website to Wine Trail Traveler which will feature cheeses, olive/grape seed oils and vinegars. The companion website will be released in January 2012.

Cheers! Kathy
