Local Wineries Support Community

Sometimes it makes one wonder about people who don’t want a winery in their own backyard. Sure neighbors need to realize that a winery is a business and that the vineyards are like having a farm next door. Hours can’t be just the traditional 9am to 5pm. However the benefits of having a winery in your own back yard appear to outweigh these inconveniences.

I don’t believe that people realize some of the benefits in having a nearby winery/vineyard. In addition to the preservation of land by vineyards, there are other benefits. Many people may not realize the extent that wineries may go to help build community. Numerous wineries support the community with charity events or donations.

One fine example of  a winery supporting its community is Tarara Winery in Leesburg, Virginia. Tarara Winery has a program for Charitable Giving called “Pour a Little More” (PALM). PALM helps charities by offering a program – on Tuesdays a portion of proceeds is donated to a local group.  In addition, Tarara Winery creates events to support these organizations.  Community groups that benefit from Tarara’s generosity include PotomacLoudoun Literacy Council, Operation Pinecone, Habitat for Humanity, Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter, Lucketts Volunteer Fire Department and the Loudoun Arts Council.

If you know of a winery that supports communities and charities, please let me know and I’ll write about it.

Cheers! Kathy
