Recently Sokol Blosser, located in Oregon, sent us a package of wines and goodies to sample and write about. We visited Sokol Blosser a few years ago and after our visit we wrote an article about the winery, vineyards and wines. The article is available online. “Sokol Blosser is a green winery with a sustainable vineyard. Solar panels provide one-third of the wineries total energy needs. The vineyard uses native plants to attract beneficial insects. Sokol Blosser is “good to the earth in the ways wines are produced. Grapes are handpicked and sorted. While visiting, walk to the vineyards and observe the surrounding countryside, reminiscent of the Tuscan countryside in Italy.”
Our Sokol Blosser package included: two sparkling wines, a Sokol Blosser Cocktail Sauce, Sokol Blosser Rhubarb Rosemary Jelly and Maple Rosemary Roasted Nuts. You may want to consider any of these items to add to your own handmade gift basket. For those ordering from the Sokol Blosser online store, wine selections can be shipped to more than 30 states. Check to see if they are allowed to ship to your state.
Since we had family, from Portland, Oregon visiting in early December, we had the opportunity to pair the wines with two different traditional Christmas meals for our family. We first opened the Sokol Blosser Sparkling Rose of Pinot Noir Brut in the wine room and paired it with the Rhubarb Rosemary Jelly spooned over brie. The jelly was full of the flavor of rhubarb with an intense rosemary essence. The consistency of the jelly was easy to spread over the cheese. It matched well with the sparkling rosé. Then we went to the dinner table for a holiday ham dinner. The sparkling rosé was festive and had a light pink color. The 12.5% alcohol wine had notes of cherry and citrus and complimented the ham.
On another evening we had a traditional turkey dinner with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and sides. For this meal we opened the Sokol Blosser Evolution. The sparkling Evolution is a favorite for our Portland family members. It’s the wine they alway purchase when visiting the winery. The 12.5% alcohol sparkling wine was a yellow color and offered notes of honeysuckle, apple and citrus. It paired nicely with the turkey and stuffing.
The Maple Rosemary Roasted Nuts also paired well with the sparkling Evolution. We decide to save the cocktail sauce for Christmas Day. Sokol Blosser makes holiday gift giving easy. Although the sparkling wines paired well with Christmas dinners, they would just as easily go with New Year’s Eve celebrations with an assortment of foods.
Cheers,
