Wisconsin: A Tempting Place to Live

During our visit to Wisconsin wineries in June, we had incredible weather. Since this was our first visit to Wisconsin we were unsure as to what clothes to wear – would it be cold, cool or warm? We arrived on the first day with sweaters and a coat. It was not exactly the best choice; […]

What is Your Idea of a Winery?

After visiting 400 wineries in the US, Canada, Italy and England, we have discovered each one is unique. Ultimately it brings about the question, just what is a winery? In general, a winery is a place that produces wine. This is so general it leaves many questions. To be a “real” winery, does a winery […]

Old Winery Buildings

I love old buildings. It never ceases to amaze me that what appears to be a perfectly good building can be ripped down and replaced with a new building. At times that can be a good thing, especially if the building was poorly constructed in the first place. However, buildings built 30 years ago shouldn’t […]

How Would a Lifestyle Tax Affect You?

Do you support a “lifestyle” tax? I keep hearing about taxes and more taxes while at the same time the government keeps handing out money – money they don’t have. What is it with elected government officials that they don’t understand that when you don’t have the money you don’t spend it? Once officials are […]

Laurello Vineyards

An email from Laurello Vineyards in Ohio today reminded me that summer is not really here yet according to the calendar and the temperature. After winter’s unseasonably cold temperatures, I am already determined not to complain about the summer heat at home or at wineries. However, the email suggested that anyone attending Laurello’s Friday and Saturday evening outdoor […]

Retiring to Wine Country

As baby boomers look toward retirement, many begin thinking about downsizing their homes. After all, how many bedrooms do “empty nesters” need? People with a passion for wine may want to think about moving to wine country. Whether you are looking for  a quiet, friendly region or a dynamic, friendly region you are bound to […]

FTC and Blogs

In a blog this week, Reign of Terroir discusses changes the FTC may put in effect this summer. The FTC is leaning towards requiring bloggers, who blog about wines and wineries, to clearly disclose if the wine was a gift from the winery. If a blogger writes about a visit to a winery, he or […]

Local Wines in Restaurants

What restaurants have you visited and discovered local wines? Eat and drink local is very popular especially at this time of year with fresh produce becoming available around the country. Kudos to all restaurants who focus on local fresh produce. In addition, praise to all restaurants who offer visitors a choice of local wines. Restaurant […]

St. Julian’s Winery and Simply Pink

This week, I discovered that a Michigan winery has just released a semi-dry wine that is dedicated to the owner’s mother, who passed away in 1971 from breast cancer. St. Julian Winery in Michigan released Simply Pink. Simply Pink is a blend of Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Pairing suggestions include grilled […]
