J.K. Carriere located on Parrett Mountain in the Willamette Valley AVA offers a small, boutique winery experience. During the season the winery is open Fridays and Saturdays; visits are available by appointment Monday thru Thursday.
One of the first things that visitors to J.K. Carriere will notice is the logo for J.K. Carriere. A diagram of a wasp is both unusual at a winery and has special meaning for Jim Prosser, owner and winemaker. Jim chose the wasp as a logo because he is allergic to wasps. The wasp logo is on the winery building and on wine labels. J.K. refers to Jim’s grandfather’s first initials.
Cory Waller is the assistant at the winery and assists with winemaking as well as in the tasting room. J.K. Carriere Wines moved to the current location in 2009 from a 100 year old barn site.The boutique size tasting room has a small stove for those cool seasonal times. At the tasting counter tastings are with Schott Zwiesel stemware. A wood table with four chairs is available for enjoying a glass of wine. A small deck also offers seating for visitors.
J.K. Carriere Wines
Chardonnay 2008 offered notes of apple and pear. The aftertaste had a faint butter nuance while the finish was crisp. Provocateur Pinot Noir 2008 was a blend from seven vineyards. The ruby wine had red cherry notes with the fruit yielding to spice. Tannins were on the crisp finish. Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2007 was ruby with cherry and spice notes. The finish was crisp with tannins. Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2008 was a dark ruby. Cherry notes accompanied a hint of earthiness on the aroma. Cherry notes were on the taste. The wine offered a crisp finish with mild tannins. Antoinette Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2007 was ruby with cherry nuances. The finish was crisp and fruity with tannins. J.K. Carriere wines are meant to be enjoyed with food and have aging potential.
Vineyards
Recently the owners planted six acres of Pinot Noir Wadensvil clone and will add an additional three acres of Pinot Noir. While the vineyard is new, J.K. Carriere is sourcing grapes.
Winery and Wine Caves
Wines are produced in the new winery facility however wine was previously made in 1900’s barn. Currently J.K. Carriere produces 3,000 cases of wine. The new winery features four underground wine caves constructed with large culverts. The J.K. Carriere wines are sold throughout Oregon.
