National Zinfandel Day

What Zin would you open?

What Zin would you open?

I checked out my wine room and discovered I had three Zins. What should I open on this day that celebrates Zinfandel? I have a choice between a 1999 Turley, 2011 Oak Ridge or 2010 Don Angel? I received a tweet that suggested I open all three. Unfortunately, Kathy and I would not drink all three of them and I wouldn’t want to waste any, especially if I like it. I could open them in chronological order and stop if I opened one I really like. On the other hand I could open them all and cook with them. I checked the Wine Trail Traveler site for recipes that use Zinfandel as an ingredient. Five recipes use Zin as an ingredient.

Zinfandel Wine Jello Shots
Zinfandel-Slow Cooker Braised Short Ribs
Mediterranean Chicken Breast with Risotto and Sautéed Zucchini
Blue Cheese-Zinfandel Burgers
Basque Fisherman’s Tuna Stew

If you end up with too much Zinfandel today, or you simply want to add some Zin to a recipe, check out the above recipes. Pairing the Zin with the recipe always works well.

Cheers,
Terry
