Lorimar Winery and Vineyards

Summary: A visit to the Lorimar Winery tasting room in historic Old Town Temecula will provide a wonderful pairing of wine, music and art. Be sure to look for the music note on the label of many Lorimar wines and enjoy the artwork that changes monthly. Watch for more events when the winery and tasting room open at the vineyards in late 2011.

Lorimar Winery and VineyardsLorimar Winery and VineyardsLorimar Winery and Vineyards, owned by Mark Manfield and Lawrie Lipton, has 17 acres of vineyards a short distance from historic Old Town Temecula. Grape varieties included Syrah, Muscat Canelli, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, Grenache and Sangiovese. The owners also contract with other grape growers. A building on the property is the barrel room. Some events take place at the vineyards. Lorimar is hoping to open a two-story Tuscan-style building at the vineyard site in the autumn of 2011.

 

Lorimar Winery and VineyardsThe tasting room in Old Town Temecula has brick steps leading to the front door. The tasting room has a lot of foot traffic. A wood floor adds to the ambiance. Inside visitors will notice artwork displayed on the walls. Artwork changes by the month. Gourmet food items and wine accessories are available for sale.

A visit to Lorimar Winery tasting room is delightful at any time, however the tasting room has a passion for wine, art and music. Mark and Lawrie love music and wine. Mark says, “Wine makes you feel good, music makes you feel good.” It’s the art, music, food and soul experience for the senses.

An additional feature at the tasting counter is the willingness of the staff to take the time to help those who want to learn about wine.

The wine tasting began with the Sparkling Chardonnay. There was the aroma of apple with a taste of apple and a hint of sugar. The sparkling wine help cleanse the palate, a good beginning especially for those who have visited other tasting rooms.

White Wines

Chardonnay 2008 was produced in stainless steel. The result was a light yellow wine with an aroma and taste of apple and citrus. The finish was crisp and fruity. Duetto 2009 was a blend of Chenin Blanc and Viognier. There were tropical fruit notes throughout the tasting. Gerwürztraminer 2009 was a gold color with an aroma of floral and sweetness. The taste was of honey and apricot. The finish was crisp and delicious.

Red Wines

Medley Meritage 2005 was a dark ruby with a light purple rim. The aroma was of black berry fruit. The taste was jammy with blackberry and black raspberry nuances. The finish was fruity with mild tannins. Solo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 was a dark ruby with a light ruby rim. The aroma and taste were of blackberries. The fruity finish offered medium tannins. Duet 2008, a Cabernet-Mourvedre blend, was a dark ruby color with a ruby rim. The wine offered black berries on the aroma and taste. There were bold tannins on the fruity finish. Fusion 2008 was a blend of Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. The color was a dark purple to black purple rim. The aroma and taste were jammy black berries. There were bold tannins on the finish. Consider pairing the Fusion with lamb dishes.

When you have the opportunity to visit historic Old Town Temecula, be sure to examine the artwork that decorates the walls while you taste the wines. The Lorimar tasting room in Temecula offers numerous wine and music events. Lorimar features Live@Lorimar on Saturdays from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Musicians play instruments such as guitars, violins, keyboards and saxophones. Stop by for a while and enjoy wine with music. Perhaps you will want to have a bottle of wine autographed by the musician. Other events include visiting chefs, who will demonstrate how to prepare a dish and pair it with wine.
