Day 11 in Georgia (Sakartvelo): Birthplace of Wine

On Day 11 of our visit to Georgia (Sakartvelo) we visited three wineries in the Georgian region of Racha-Lechkhumi. To reach these wineries from the second largest city in Georgia, Kutaisi, rough roads added more drama to the sights of the beautiful river and the Caucasus Mountains.

Days 9 and 10 in Georgia, Sakartvelo: Birthplace of Wine

On day 9 we visited Shavnabada Monastery of Saint George Wine Cellar a short distance outside of Tbilisi.

5th Day in Georgia (Sakartvelo): Birthplace of Wine

After a quick breakfast at Chateau Mere, we were on our way to the first of four Georgian wineries. Kindzmarauli Marani is a winery with a large vineyard “library” of well maintained grapevines. Currently the vineyard has 420 grape varieties that can be found in Georgia.

Our first winery in Georgia was Tbilivino followed by Bagrationi 1882.

Introducing the Wine Tourism Club

On Wednesday May 8, Wine Trail Traveler, LLC announced the establishment of the Wine Tourism Club. This club is free and for people who visit wineries and wine tasting rooms while traveling.

First Wine Tourism Day: Maryland Wineries Offer Special Events

The first Wine Tourism Day takes place Saturday, May 11. According to the Wine Tourism Day website, “Wine Tourism Day is designed to feature the many wineries offering events through North America, promote the concept of traveling to wine regions on vacation, and highlight the economic impact of wine tourism. Most of all it is about you, a lover of wine and travel, having fun.”
