He believes that when visitors come to the winery they will leave as friends.
Barking Rocks Vineyard and Winery has a mission of “Making wine, friends and events happen.” The winery is located in the countryside of Granbury, Texas. After traveling for a few minutes from the historic center of Granbury, Texas, visitors arrive at the winery.
The winery is located in a renovated cattle barn that was created of stone. In the stone wall, one will see five stones in a pattern of HK. These stones represent the initials of the original owner of the barn, Helen Knocks who used the symbol for branding her cattle. The owner of Barking Rocks Vineyard and Winery decided to use the image as a logo for the winery. After an extended time of determining a name for the winery, someone commented that the rock pattern looked like a barking dog, thus the name Barking Rocks.
The tasting counter is located at one end of the event and gallery room. The walls of the event room display numerous works of art from artists that brighten the rough barn siding. Events are becoming more frequent at the winery. Watch for more music groups to be scheduled. Musicians are discovering that Barking Rocks Winery is a great place to perform.
Lawrence Tiberia is the son of Italian immigrants who entered the United States at Ellis Island. Lawrence grew up with wine in the house including a barrel of wine in the cellar that he helped with when called upon. However, he did not develop a passion for wine until he was older.
The winery includes a quarter acre of Black Spanish vineyards. Lawrence purchases grapes from other Texas vineyards including Brennan. Lawrence produces 800 cases of wine. Currently the tasting list includes seven wines. Soon Lawrence will be releasing a strawberry dessert wine.
White Wines
The Pinot Grigio 2008 was produced with fruit from Temecula, California. The aroma and taste were of grapefruit. The finish was clean and crisp with grapefruit notes that lingered on the finish. Viognier 2005 was produced with Texas fruit. The color was a pale yellow. This wine offered a very floral aroma with a taste of roses, honeysuckle and caramel. The finish was crisp with a touch of heat. There was a long caramel aftertaste.
Rosé
Rose en Verde 2008 was a red-pink color produced with Muscat of Alexandria and Nero d’Avola grapes. The aroma had a floral with orange blossom notes. The taste was smooth, lightly sweet with strawberry notes. The wine was crisp and dried on the finish.
Red Wines
Little Red Wine in Hood, a Syrah, had a translucent Sienna red color. Lawrence chose the name because it is a little red wine as opposed to a bold red and the winery is located in Hood County. Over the years, the wine has changed in the bottle. The aromas and taste of the wine had dark fruit notes. The finish was fruity with mild tannins. It was aged in oak barrels for one year. This wine has its own version of Little Red Riding Hood on the label. Enjoy reading the story while you taste the wine. Sangiovese 2004 was a translucent ruby color. The aroma and taste were of cherry. There were mild tannins on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 was a dark red purple. The aroma and taste had blackberry nuances and the finish was crisp. Chocolate pairs well with this wine. The wine cuts some of the sweetness of the chocolate, which cuts some of the acid of the wine.
Visit Barking Rocks Vineyard and Winery to discover handcrafted red and white wines. Enjoy talking with Lawrence to discover his passion for creating wines. Watch for future music events hosted by the winery.
