Summary: Two La Bodega Winery tasting rooms are located in the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. According to Elise Crawford, wineologist, people love it. It is an oasis in an airport.
The first La Bodega Winery tasting room was added to the DFW International Airport 14 years ago In Terminal A, Gate A15. It was the first bonded winery in an airport anywhere in the world. Some La Bodega Port is aged at this location.
In 2005, a larger tasting room was added to Terminal D, Gate D14. Outside of the tasting room, a small and delightful artificial patio, offers a delightful spot to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, perhaps a mimosa. In the tasting rooms, they offer appetizers of cheeses, Italian plates with meats and cheese and smoked salmon. Numerous food selections for breakfast, lunch and dessert are available at the Terminal D location. These include coffee, bagels, Danishes, fresh fruit, parfaits, panini and burritos. For lunch choose, an open faced sandwich, muffaletta, egg rolls, Texas TNT fries or a picnic-to-go box.
Both locations have Texas and international wines available by the glass and by the bottle. Currently, since travelers have already passed through security and the wines have also gone through security, travelers can purchase wines and take them on board.
Elise Crawford, wineologist, estimates that the purchase of Texas wines and other wines is fifty-fifty. All wines except for the La Bodega wines vary throughout the year. The tasting rooms offer numerous wine-related gift items to browse. Look for “attitude aprons,” stemware, decanters, wine bottle “banks” and cigars.
We tasted three La Bodega Winery wines at the Terminal D location. La Bodega Chardonnay 2007 offered an apple aroma and taste while the taste also had a hint of caramel and butter. The finish was crisp. Merlot 2006 was a ruby color with an aroma of dark and red fruit. The taste was very fruity with red raspberries and blackberries. The finish was fruity with mild tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 was a light ruby color. The aroma was light with nuances of blackberries and spice. The taste was of blackberries and the finish had mild tannins.
If you will be traveling through the DFW International Airport, stop at one of the La Bodega tasting rooms. Enjoy browsing and relaxing with a glass of wine. Electrical outlets are available at the Terminal D location for recharging computers and cell phones. If you need a last minute gift, you can find a nice selection of wines and accessories here.
